Activities With Food Coloring Markers
1. Write a secret note inside of your sandwich at lunch!
2. Use your markers to make cool designs on your ice-cream cone!
3. Decorate a piece of pita bread to look like a ship. Stuff it with your favorite coldcuts and set out to sea!
4. Write your name on a marshmallow, graham cracker or cookie wafer. Use your creation as a seating card at your next birthday party!
5. Draw a monster face on a marshmallow. Squish it down & watch the face flatten and bulge. It's Ooey Gooey fun!
6. Draw eye-balls on marshmallows and wear them on your fingers. Frighten away any bullies in your class!

Butterscotch Shortbread Recipe
| • 1/2 cup softened margarine or butter • 1/2 cup shortening • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar | • 1/4 cup sugar
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine butter, shortening, vanilla and sugars in a bowl. Stir in flour and salt. Mix well with your hands. This makes a dry dough. Sheet dough with rolling pin on lightly floured surface. Sheet to about 3/8" to 1/2" inch thick. Cut out your favorite shapes with cookie cutters. Lay them on a cookie sheet about 1" apart and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.These cookies will change in color and shape only slightly. Makes about 30 cookies.
Smooth Coat Base Icing Recipe
Makes 3 cups of Smooth Coat base icing
• 3 3/4 cups confectioners sugar
• 3 Tablespoons meringue powder
• 8 Tablespoons warm water
Beat 4 to 4 1/2 minutes on medium speed. Lift the icing out with a spoon and let it drizzle back in. If the drizzle settles in time it takes to count to between 5 and 10 then the mix is the correct consistency. Add more confectioners sugar by the tablespoons to make stiffer and more water by the teaspoons to make thinner.
To apply the icing you can either dip the face of the cookie or apply with a pastry brush.

• 3 egg whites
• 3/4 teaspoon vanilla or 2 to 3 drops almond extract
• 3 1/2 tablespoons water
• Parchment paper or non-stick vegetable spray for cookie sheet
Heat oven to 300 degrees. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add liquid ingredients and stir until the batter is smooth. Line a cookie with parchment paper or spray with non-stick vegetable coating. Drop exactly level teaspoons of fortune cookie batter onto the cookie sheet, no and leave room for them to spread. Spread evenly to a 3 inch diameter. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cookies are beginning to brown lightly. Remove from the oven and immediately remove cookies from sheet with a broad spatula.
